Environmental Policy

Calmec are a Mechanical contractor based in Wimborne, Dorset on the Ferndown industrial estate. We offer a full Mechanical service with over 30 directly employed staff, independently trading in the HAVCR industry since 2005.

Our technically qualified staff have the engineering knowledge and experience to provide a full design and build packages to the client’s specific requirements. 

We offer a complete in-house design, manufacturing, supply, installation, and maintenance on all our projects. 

Our policy statement outlines the environmental commitments and our social obligations we undertake in our trading.

Calmec is continuously committed to improving our environmentally practices, preventing environmental pollution and to ensure the preservation of natural resources.

We aim to design, install, and maintain equipment which will help reduce carbon emissions and therefore cause less damage to the environment. We recognise our moral responsibility and have set several objectives to help us protect the environment.

Calmec are committed to sustainable development as a guiding principle within our work. Concern for the environment is an integral and fundamental part of this commitment. Our aim is to reduce the impact on the environment from our operations

Therefore, it is our commitment to:

• promote responsibility for the environment within the business, communicate and implement this policy at all levels within the workforce
• reduce the use of energy consumption, water and other resources
• minimise waste by reduction, re-use and recycling methods
• explore whether environmentally friendly products can be purchased when buying any equipment for use within the company
• use technology to reduce the need to travel, and encourage staff to use public transport or electric vehicles, where travel is unavoidable
• aim to reduce levels of pollution emissions wherever possible
• comply with all relevant environmental legislation/regulation
• ensure that our policies and services are developed in a way that is complimentary to this policy
• identify and provide appropriate training, advice and information for staff and encourage them to develop new ideas and initiatives
• provide appropriate resources to meet the commitments of this policy

We shall, on a regular basis, establish and measure our environmental performance against the objectives we will set on a regular basis and we will ensure that any mistakes are quickly rectified and change the current practices appropriately.

We will always comply and, where possible, try to exceed the requirements of any such environmental laws.

All wastes that arise from our business activities will be legally disposed of.  We will provide our staff with adequate and appropriate information and full training to ensure that they are competent in all matters of environmental damage minimisation.

Calmec consider it both our moral and our legal responsibility to ensure our business activities cause minimal damage to the environment and we wish to both enhance and sustain the environment and we will do everything within our power to encourage our suppliers and our customers to make every effort to act similarly.

Our Environmental Policy relating to Air Conditioning & Refrigeration

• We will ensure that all of the products that we install will meet European directives and regulations

• We will only purchase air conditioning equipment from manufacturers who have similar environment policies and objectives to our own company.

• To promote environmentally responsible design and procurement of equipment whenever possible.

• We will ensure that all of our air conditioning equipment is de-gassed in accordance with the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive

• Calmec is committed to only using equipment that promotes refrigerants that have a reduced impact on the environment.

• To make efficient and environmentally responsible use of energy and natural resources.

• To minimise waste production as far as is practicable, to reuse or recycle waste where possible and to regulate the treatment and disposal of any residual waste.

• To reduce and, where practicable, prevent pollution.

• To minimize the impact of transport on the environment arising from its own vehicles as well as its suppliers transport.

• To minimise the adverse environmental impact of the decommissioning and disposal of redundant equipment.
• • To raise awareness of all staff and clients to the environmental impact, activities, and performance and to promote individual good practice.
  • Abide by the latest government policies and Legislation.
  • Comply with REFCOM guidelines.
  • Carry out annual walkthrough surveys to identify energy savings and areas for waste minimisation
  • Ensure our equipment is well maintained
  • Ensure lighting and heating/cooling is switched off in rooms that are not in use and that equipment is switched off when not in use 
  • Set up a car-sharing scheme for employees
  • Only make business trips when there is no other alternative 
  • Will continue to keep good housekeeping procedures so that materials are not over ordered, overused or to go missing
